OUGD602: PPP - Manchester Digital Talent Day

Today I went to a talent day at Manchester Town Hall which was made up of digital studios and agencies within Manchester. The main objective of this talent day was for the studios and agencies to recruit new talent. There were a few of the agencies that I wanted to see so I did some initial research into the work they produced, where they were located and the team members working there.

The agency I was most excited about was the BBC as I had seen a User Experience Design training scheme which is lead by the BBC. As I want to go into the field of UXD I think it would be a great idea to gain professional training in a field which is not covered within the Graphic Design course. I carried out my research before I attended the talent day and had great expectations. I was very disappointed with the information given to me by the BBC, the representatives were not very forthcoming and gave little information about the scheme that was not online already. I asked all of the questions I could think of but came away without much information. I will still apply for the scheme but I am slightly put off.

I went to the talent day to meet the BBC but I was open to other agencies and studios. After walking around the room with stalls I came across the studio Code Computerlove, I met a man named Charles who I found very helpful, he explained how Code worked and also told me about a job opening which is opening later this year. The job is for a graduate UX Designer which is a perfect job opportunity for me. I gave him my business card as well as my CV,  Charles has contacted me about the job over Twitter and I also received an email from a lady named Dina  who is the head of talent at Code. Dina informed me that the job will go live next week and said to keep in touch with her over the next few weeks when I apply.

I felt really happy with the treatment given to me by Code and will definitely be applying for the role.
